The Contest

“This isn’t a race George.”

“I know, but wouldn’t it be great if we did finish first?” George said, then noticing the smile come up on Franko’s face added, “This plan is perfect.”

“But isn’t it cheating? We don’t own this chunk after all.”

“I know who does and he’s willing to sell!”

“You’ll pay for this!” Franko said, “I don’t believe that.”

“I don’t have to, he doesn’t want money, he wants cheese!”

“Cheese? Well, we certainly have enough cheese. OK.”

They got to work, taking a nice hunk of cheese and heading over to where the chunk they wanted was. The deal went well, on the way back they found they’d left a small piece of cheese in the ship. Franko picked it up and started playing with it absentmindedly.

When they got to their spot, they placed the large chunk, then did some shaping and shaking, adding some elements and spices and some magic and then started it spinning. It looked good and they were ahead of everyone else!

Franco still had the cheese in his hand, and it was a nice ball now, so he added it as a decoration, spinning it around the chunk. Perfect!

They won! George and Franko got first prize for their work. The cheese addition was so popular it started a fashion trend and most contestants started adding something around the edges of their entries, some even to that year’s entries.

George and Franko entered many more times, winning too, yet even so, they were mostly remembered for that particular year’s entry. And they they never told anyone they’d cheated a little... They called that entry Earth.
