On the sad closure of the Tasmanian Times & the weary retirement of its much loved editor

What is the measure of a man
But by his faith
And works that trod his life
Which portioned out its toil
His passions and his strifes
The vision that he ran
The roadblocks climbed
The times that he has timed
The songs he sang upon his way
Echoing still within the minds
Of those who heard his call
And answered
To make a chorus for us all
That bore us willingly upon his gait
So often and so very long
That we forgot that time and tide
Accumulate
A weary wanderer must have his rest
But we shall not forget the signs he left
The candle that he lit
To cheer us in our darker days
To remind us of a man
Who stood the test
Who beckons now for others
To follow him to do their best
Not count the cost
Nor stint
The path that he has shone
when duty calls
We shall remember him
