A poem I wrote in high school based off of Walt Whitman's I Hear America Singing.
My America Sings

I hear America singing her joyful yet somber song.

Welcoming all to explore her, to learn and take pride in her young yet powerful life.

To walk across her historic land.

To shake the hands of her children and to experience the many cultures she is made of.

She sings to her children letting them know they are loved and safe.

She sings to the lands around her to show how proud and strong she is.

She boasts her unity and diversity.

She dares any enemy to try to cross her land.

She asks and accepts the hand of friendship of others.

I now understand the large hearts of heroes who fought and still fight so hard for this land.

I thank all who have given their lives for me.

She sings her sorrowful song in their honor.

I hear America singing in the many voices of all who make her great.
