Missing someone special
On the train I imagine you

I sat down on my seat, against the smeared window. The seat cracked; nobody beside me. But I imagine you would be sitting next to me, your long black hair on my shoulder, I can almost feel your body heat thru the layers that divide us as you gently lay against me, drawing strength. I give strength. I feel privileged to know you… You follow my eyes as I stare out the window. Beyond the railroad and a dirt road, small lots and older houses fly by. Tall grass, abandoned garden, a dog on chain… Plastered white walls and shingle roofs. I turn to my right, the seat is empty but I can almost see you. I look into your big brown eyes and see the what ifs. You could live like that but it’s not your life. You stare back into my eyes; not our life.
And the train’s horn cries out like a battle cry; Final stop, Budapest is next…
