Intentions don't produce expected results
On Halloween the rug rats come
All costumed up and such
To beg a treat without a trick
They want to get so much

Older kids later came
With no thanks or grin
Next year will be different
To scare them I will win

Within a grubby rubber mask
A grimy, growling man
Clothes of rags and knurled hands
Punish older kids my plan

The first to see my horrid face
Did laugh and slightly scream
Yet took the candies that I gave
And left in a fast stream

Then thought I, I'll make it worse
I'll crouch and leap and groan
The seeds of their destruction set
Older kids would soon atone

Upon the bell, leapt I up
Stunned, startled, gasps began
My stomach dropped right out
A toddler to her Dad ran

So now I'll be the very best
The nicest nicest I can be
I never want to see that look
This toddler gave to me!
