The holiday season falls flat.
(…as the leaves still pile
  up by the fence.)

And so this is not the most
wonderful time of the year.
It is too cold and blustery,
too snowy, too icy, not
enough light (for the
light grows shorter
each passing day.)

No, this time of the
year leaves me cold.

Too much madness
is released, as if insanity
burst the straps of civility,
only to flail like drooling
zombies lusting blood.

(…as the leaves still pile
  up by the fence.)

Too much hustle and bustle
that hectic among us and
yards are a mess, with
the ruts of SUVs
digging deep.

Holiday anticipation
that leads to big letdowns
after the first of the year,
with courtesy in short
supply…

(…and the leaves still pile
  up by the fence.)
