Poem for Philosophical Musings Contest ~ 20 Lines

Despite words by any naysayer,
in my heart, I'm just the 'bone player.

In bars shrouded in smoke,
nearly making me choke.

Paid with merely a song
all the beery night long.

Seeking fortune or fame
was not ever the game.

Gladly paying my dues,
all to honor my muse.

Practice honing my craft
oft the subject of chaff.

We've no mind for the time;
I and partners in crime

play without any pause -
well, except for applause!

We won't dread the last note,
or if Death casts his vote.

Little matter for what may transpire,
'bone players seldom truly expire.
