A sports poem about a disappointing season and moving on - a free verse poem.
Losing leaves a bitter taste
In the mouths of players,
Fans, coaches, and the organization.
But a season of defeats
Just mars the existence
Of human endeavors;
People from every level of concern
Must sympathize and grieve the trend;
Teams have, or should have,
Instilled a talent and dream
Of supreme intent -
Only to watch the vacated process
Evaporate along with its
Forgotten expectations.

The past holds little smite
For soon-to-be-dealt cards
Of future hands.

Athletes offer promise and a voice,
But the few highlights which the world saw
Can never speak of the time-tested,
Heated fire and intense work ethic.

But heavily born on the shoulders
Is the distant, grueling task:
Emerging from a
Disappointing season -

From which everyone must advance,
To erase this visionary resolve
For decades to come.
