An album by Boxstep, reinterpreted for The Soundtrackers.


Probably 20 years ago or so, a coworker friend was also a drummer for a couple local bands. One night he played a show with another band at one of the best local spots in Buffalo for indie music, Mohawk Place, opening for this band from Pittsburgh who barely fit on the stage. It was mellow rock fueled by keyboards, a cello, a violin, and guitars that absolutely ebbed and flowed with the passion of the vocals. He gave me a copy of their cd because he thought I'd like it, and I loved it. That band was Boxstep, and the album is The Faces All Look On  .

I'll try to include lyrics and videos when I can, but I know they've been hard to find in the past. I don't even know if they're a band anymore, but their music is still available on Amazon and the subsequent albums I purchased from iTunes years ago aren't nearly as impressive, lyrical, or story-ful as this one. For some reason, this album speaks to me a lot, and I'm excited to share it with you. It's equal parts heartbreaking and uplifting, like a full crescendo. It's slow and soft in its drama, but rises to a powerful and positive ending. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have for so long.

This video came out shortly after the album, as an introduction on their website (remember, this was like 20 years ago). You could mouse over different members of the band on stage to hear their parts isolated, or you could hear them together. It really was one of the coolest websites back around the turn of the century.
