Looking at a favorite painting, then out my window at the current world.
Picasso’s Guernica

We only saw black and white
when the fatal gods of war
and faulty gods of men
came down to play.

On an April morning in 1937,
the painter cried as he ran a brush,
dipped in the red of paint,
blood, and hate and smeared it
across a landscape of broken cows,
horses, and men.

Now in the highlights,
being both gods of war and men,
we only see black and white.
