False Prophets & A True Path
This poem is entered in "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest.

Footprints

The rules were set out daily for our footprints to follow
and we counted on a long dead honor system and on those rules
that also tended to be changed even more often
by a conference call of mindless chirping voices

Our feet fell in line with what they demanded
and we counted on fairness
they also tended to reward the faithful rather than the compliant
these empty vessels with no common sense

"Take your masks off!" came the cry of the desperate potential litigants
and we counted on seeing the reality of the thing at last
they also tended to not wear masks themselves
so the truth might never be revealed... or so these tyrants believed

Footfalls following the path now erased
and we learned to count on nothing that Spring
but a man walking in his backyard slowly
a hundred years of truth and faith in something better shining the light on his blessed way...
