Hat of trick

It was a bad idea to wander that night. When I came to the cave entrance, the mouth had been filled in with concrete since my last visit. Scrawled over the concrete in red paint was this:

Dress of gray
Mouth of brick
Hope of none
Hat of trick

Huh. Weird. Guess I wouldn’t go spelunking. I read it again. Was this some sort of secret coded message? I kept on walking, but got the feeling someone walked beside me.

Fool that I am, I turned to see nothing. Just a chill in the air.

Suddenly in front of me - swear to god - a woman in a gray filmy dress, mouth all of bricks, with a top hat. She walked toward me. I couldn’t get away - I tried to run - she walked through me and on up the street.

I couldn’t utter a word. I tried to scream, no words came out. My reflection in a shop window showed a woman in a dress with a mouth of bricks and a top hat. I walked toward a man to tell him to call the police and he walked right through me.

I took off the hat and jumped through it. I was back at the cave entrance. Yes, it was a bad idea to wander that night. I now wander every night in:
Dress of gray
Mouth of brick
Hope of none
Hat of trick
