An Ode to the people who light up our lives and the darkness that they fill
Tail Lights

Caught up in the tail lights,
lapsed from times gone by;
blazing up a trail bright,
under starlit sky

Northern stars, lost in the past,
a compass spinning, wild
True north lost in lines lit fast,
enraptured like a child

Hypnotised by lines burnt long,
long into the night;
stretched out colors, forged so strong,
captured trains of light

Trains of light, run down the tracks,
remembered long, the routes;
the life we have, the things it lacks,
with stations rendered moot

on wrong side of the tracks, bereft,
the wrong end of the game
Vapour trails, all that's left,
as phantom lights remain

Streaming brightly, in the dark,
with shutters open wide
Through a lens, the view seems stark,
it stutters, splutters... slides

'tween services along the way,
a motor's stalling starts;
bridges crossed and tolls to pay,
the sum of all our parts

Condensed down to lapsed streams of light,
caught and stretched so far;
captured, hoarded in the night,
... remembered as you are
