A poem searching and questioning the whereabouts of beauty.
Who Knows?

Who knows the whereabouts of beauty
Whether she is in the flower
Or on the lips of a girl
Whether she is in the arms of a strongman
Or the tenderness of a boy’s smile
Who can say I have seen beauty
I have seen her comb her hair
And brush her eyelashes and paint her nails
She leaves her signs everywhere
Her sparkes are here and there
Her finger prints are on the breasts of women
Her kisses in the winds of the garden
Her breath blows in the strength of men
Yet where is she?
In the snow or in the desert
Or in the ocean, who can claim?
Nowhere is beauty to be found
But in the minds of the brave
In the freedom of the free
Where she is made and branded
Not on their sculptures
Not in their paintings
But only in their minds beauty dwells
But only in their deepest thoughts
Beauty lies naked, uncovering her secrets.
