Growing up means being free

I'm not a teenager any more!
I'm all grown up and that's for sure.
Now I have to be mature
With responsibility to endure!

I've got to study, I've got to learn
I've got to work, I've got to earn
Romance won't make my head turn
I can't let my emotions churn.

I'm an adult, full of beans
In my t-shirt and my blue jeans.
Now I know what 'old timer' means
I've been there - behind the scenes.

I'm an adult, two decades old
Going out into the world -- so bold
No one to say 'do as you're told'
No one to fuss, no one to scold.

I cook, I clean, I do each chore
I must admit it is a bore
Surely there's got to be more
Than all these tasks which I abhor?

Where are the parties, where's the fun?
I'm so tired when the day is done
Things just pile up by the ton
I tell you, I just want to run!

Wish I was home with Mom and Dad
With all the warm meals to be had
If I could, I'd never be bad
I'd never, ever make Mom sad.

But clocks tick, the world keeps spinning,
I'm not a loser, I'm going to start winning
I'm grown up, I'll go rumming and ginning,
Hey, do I see you grinning?

Yes, I can have some alcohol
Get drunk - it's my call
From a bottle or a glass so tall
I can just have it all

But you know the funny thing?
All that stuff has lost its zing.
True happiness it cannot bring
Shall I go back to the apron string?
