This poem goes with the ditching shovels I give to grooms who are friends of the family.
The Wedding Shovel

Every man needs a shovel,
For all the holes he’ll dig.

Some holes will be small,
Others, mighty big.

Tis smart to know the difference;
The small holes are in the ground.

The big holes we step into,
Often when sin abounds.

So, what’s a shovel for?
To dig the small holes of life.

For the others, it’s just a reminder,
to fill those holes with love,
and make up for the strife.
