A friend confided in me her experiences with her step-father, & this became my first poem.
The monster enters the darkened room,
Silent footsteps hide his sick intent.
Innocent...yet she takes the blame.
His love comes at such a price.

She must be quiet, at school and at home.
To speak would bring such shame.
The cuts so deep, that brings relief...
But only for a while.

Why would this man who claims to care...
Destroy the beauty within?
Love lost, who can count the cost?
Tears that fall from sin.

Reasons will remain unknown,
Nothing matters now.
Hope is taken, never hers,
A heart is turned to stone.
