2020 in Microcosm
Roses in the Rain

I stand beneath
A lowering sky
Drawing my darkness
Into the late morning.
I stare unseeing at my feet
Into moments long ago:
A tantalizing kiss,
Joys and tears,
Thrills and pain,
But always an outstretched hand
Knowing she would be there.
Now my hand held a single red rose
Standing bareheaded in the mist
I drop the bloom
And stand empty handed
In the fine cold rain
Roses at my feet
A spray of blossoms
