How we treat veterans today
Where is the honour
For those left behind?
Where is the thanks
For those who survived?

They fought for our country
Our freedom they've won.
Yet, so many lost now
Each a daughter or a son.

Yes, they returned home
Some, it appeared unharmed.
But adjustments aren't easy
Some storms can't be calmed.

They need understanding
From each one of us.
They need central finance
To help them to assess

How to move forward
This doesn't come free.
They stepped up to serve us
So, what will it be?

Shall we let those on high
Dismiss those who hurt?
Leave them to fester
In the street's dirt.

The government called them
To protect our shores.
We now ask for care
For those who are yours.
