A boy likes a girl and invites her to a date with him.

The best night of my life

Jake looked at me with a smirk and said, "Come on Zack, beer, babes, it'll be fun." He handed me a beer and sat down on the couch next to me. Jake was my best friend and had been for years. He is lanky and tall with blond hair and blue eyes and seemed to always be wearing a baseball cap, a t shirt and ripped jeans. I glanced over and saw his wishful eyes upon me and his rough hands clasped together in a pleading pose, waiting for a response. Maybe it would be fun, I do like babes, but being the antisocial person that I am, I replied, "You know I don't do that kind of stuff Jake. Besides I've got a lot of work to do."
Jake shook his head and laughed. "What about that girl across the hall? You could invite her, maybe...." Just the possibility of having a chance to dance with her brought a smile to my face and caused a quick but heavy pounding in my chest.
"No." I replied quickly. "First of all, her name is Liz and second, a girl like that would never fall for a guy like me."
Jake sighed "Come on, you've had a crush on this girl since she moved in and you haven't said a single word to her. Grow some balls and be a man. It's not like you have anything to lose anyway."
"I said no jake, I'm sorry, but parties are not my thing anyway"
Jake shook his head and a frown started to develop onto his face before the corners of his mouth lifted to form a quick smile. "Fine, I'll just do it myself" He said, before getting up to run out the front door and across the hall.
"Wait, Stop!" I yelled at him as I ran after, but it was too late as he raised his fist and knocked on her door. The door opened and there stood a beautiful girl, in the doorframe, with long brown hair and amazing brown eyes. She wore dark blue jeans and a black tank top that read queen. "Hello?" she said.
"Hi, my name is jake and my buddy here (Jake's finger pointing to me) wanted to ask you something." He looked at me with a huge grin on his face. I stood there feeling my heart pound. It pounded so loudly I wondered if they could hear it. Finally, I managed to say "Um... Hi, Liz, right? I'm Zack, your neighbor across the hall, and uh I was uh wondering if um...you would like to maybe possibly go to a party with me later tonight..... at 8:00?" This is it I blew it. She's going to say no, and I'm going to be embarrassed, and.......
Then she smiled and said "yeah, sure, that sounds like fun." My heart felt like it stopped.
"Really?" I said disbelievingly.
She looked at me with that beautiful smile, shrugged, and said, "Sure, why not?"
"Um... ok great, we'll leave at 7:30 then." I stammered.
"Ok, I'll see you then" she replied smiling, "bye"
"Bye" I said as she closed the door. I looked over at jake astonished.
"I guess I'll see you later then" He said smiling. Then he laughed and walked away. I stood in the hallway for a couple minutes thinking about what just happened in disbelief. Then I looked at my watch and saw that it was 6:00 and ran to my apartment to start getting ready. I took a shower and threw everything out of my closet just to find the perfect outfit. After finally finding clothes that looked decent, a blue dress up shirt and black dress up pants with a red tie. I started pacing around my house nervously. Before I knew it, it was time to go and I walked nervously over to the apartment across the hall. I stood outside her door trying to calm my nerves, then I knocked. She opened the door and smiled at me. She looked beautiful. She was wearing a beautiful black dress with black heels to match, her lips lined with ruby red lipstick and eyeliner that made her eyes pop. I was staring at her for an awkward amount of time before finally being able to say "Wow, you look.... amazing."
She smiled and said "Thanks, you don't look to bad yourself."
We started to walk down the steps to the lobby as she said. "Thanks for inviting me to your party."
"Yeah... uh, no problem." I replied while rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. I could feel sweat start to form on my forehead. "I'm glad you said yes, heh" I said nervously.
She looked at me and smiled. We reached my car, a beat up, blue sedan. I opened the door for her, she said thanks then I closed it and got in on my side. We drove to the party, the car ride started with awkward silence due to my nervousness, but she then started to talk about herself and got me talking about different things like favorite color, where I'm from, stuff like that. She was very outgoing and social, and it helped calm me. We reached the party and went inside; Immediately I could hear the music blasting and could see people everywhere. It was like being at a club, I could barely walk anywhere. We found a spot to sit after what seemed like forever and sat comfortably. I sat there next to her, a girl ten times out of my league, feeling nervous and sweaty. I should ask her to dance but I couldn't even muster a sound. Finally I looked at Liz and shouted over the music "I'm going to get us some drinks!" She smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I wondered if she was annoyed that I haven't asked her to dance or even said a word. I'm so sad and pathetic.
I walked over to the keg and filled two red solo cups as a finger tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey!"
I turned to see jake with a drink of his own in his hand. Walking a bit funny as if he had drunk a little too much.
"How's it going with your girly friend?!"
"It's going ok I guess!" I shouted
"Well don't just stand here go party with her!" he said then he laughed and took another drink from his cup. I shook my head and smiled as I looked around for Liz. Then I saw her, talking to another guy across the room. My heart dropped into my stomach. I knew it was to good to be true. I should have asked her to dance or spoke to her or something.... I turned and walked instead to the stairs that lead to the second floor. Then sat on the bottom step all alone, with two drinks in my hands. I sat there drinking for couple minutes until she found me.
"Hey, what are you doing over here?! I've been looking for you everywhere, come on put those down and let's dance!"
"What about that other guy you were talking to why don't you ask him to dance?" I said. Sounding a little more jealous than I wanted to.
She laughed and said "Is that why your over here?! He's just someone I used to go to school with and in case you haven't noticed I came here with you! I figured that you were cute and that this would be fun so come on, don't make me dance alone!"
I blushed and said, "Wait, You think I'm cute?!"
She didn't answer and just laughed, grabbing my arm and pulling me to the dance floor.
I shouted, "I don't know I'm not much of a dancer!" But Liz kept pulling me as if she didn't hear me. We reached the dance floor and she started to dance. I could feel my nerves getting worse and worse, but then I smiled and thought what the heck, she thinks I'm cute and started to nervously move. After a while I got the hang of it and danced. We laughed and had a great time. After that we drank for a bit and everyone started to clear out but a few people, and the music got a bit quieter. We sat on the couch next to one another laughing, talking, and just having fun. The more we talked the less nervous I became. I remember thinking how crazy it was to have a girl this amazing and so out of my league hanging out with me. Slowly as the night went on, she got closer and closer to me and I got more and more drunk. I looked at her and said, "Hey can I... uh...can I tell you something?"
She smiled that beautiful smile and said "Sure."
"You look... you look very nice" I said as I took another drink. "Beautiful, I mean. Damn, why can't I speak."
She laughed then looked at me and smiled as she leaned in and kissed me. I could feel my face get hot as her lips touched mine. A warm sensation ran through my body. "Did you just kiss me?" I said shocked.
She looked at me laughed and said "What, am I not allowed to?"
Then we both laughed, and I said, "I don't know, but could you do it again?" I leaned in to kiss her but was to drunk and fell of the couch.
"Are you ok?" she asked laughing.
I lifted my arm and gave her a thumbs up as my body lay on the cold hard floor and I pass out.
I woke up the next morning with a horrible migraine and the smell of eggs and bacon. I rubbed my eyes a bit to help wake me. As I looked around the room, I saw a bookshelf, a tv, and lots of pictures hanging on the walls full of unfamiliar faces. I was laying on an old leather couch in an unrecognizable place. I turned to see Liz making breakfast. Looking beautiful in an old, grey, sweatshirt and shorts. Then I smiled and closed my eyes once more.
