a short haiku-structured poem about trust.
i trust and i trust
and i trust and i trust and
i trust and regret.

i choose “good people”
and i open up to them
and i get lied to.

i put my guard down
and i let people in and
history repeats.

people purposely
put pain in portraits of us,
tearing them to shreds.

history’s grasp holds
our portraits in loops of our
deceptive present.

they’re portraits of pain
and lies told and promises
sold to the trusting.

portraits that silence
memories; timeless in times
of a sought solace.

portraits that falter
in forgotten remembrance
of something called truth.
