collected over the years.
Small city number of pieces
arranged along the dining room chair rail.

Until.

Until the three-year-old discovered them.
He couldn't hurt them, cities
are pretty tough, after all
and even our terrorizing great-grandson
doesn't have quite the capability
of a nuclear bomb.

He did try.

Then tried to put them back
but couldn't make them fit.
City remodification.
New developments
led to razing the town;
starting over. ANd over. And over.

Until.

He gave up on that idea.
High-rises were the way to go.
Condominiums.
JK counted as he stacked.
Learned that a small piece
on the eighteenth floor
created an avalanche
in the housing market.

He did try.

Temper tantrum tornado
scattered houses across
Dining Room County.
Thought it time
the tired houses had a rest;
needed to be put away to nap.

Until.

He began stacking them
Eighteen, nineteen.
Sat back and watched
as the tower grew
camera-ready.
The twenty-third-floor
balanced off-center. That floor
had a balcony.

He did try.

So carefully now,
floor by floor.
Twenty-four.
Earthquake rumbled
as running dog tail threatened.
Well-built construction triumphed.

Until.

Twenty-five.
Twenty-six.
The last piece of the
sky-scraper tower
oh-so-carefully
lowered into place
as a collective of lungs
held their breath.

He did try.

And succeed.
JK Construction
is in business!
Excitement beyond
nuclear proportion
blew it all away
and down it tumbled.

Until.

Until after nap time
when he wants to build
a bigger one!
