A very short story of joke I played on a co-worker who only knew me for 3 weeks.
My last place of employment was for a small property management company with a staff of 12. Being the first person, one sees when entering the office, I tried to keep my area clean. We had issues with our air conditioning system, and the maintenance crew had been in with ladders on either side of my desk. When they finished their work in the ceiling and removing equipment, there was a layer of ceiling tile bits and lots of dust. I proceeded to take everything off my desk to clean all the surface areas thoroughly. One of my co-workers came by my desk and asked what I was doing (he was oblivious to the workers working at my station). Without missing a beat, I continued wiping the counter and replied:

"It has been a pleasure working with you these past couple of weeks, but I'm not staying; just cleaning my desk before I leave."

You should have seen the look on his face. It took him a full minute to respond, "No, you're not; you're lying!" At that point, I burst out laughing. "Mr. B., you just got pranked!"

I continued to work there for three years. Now that I'm retired, I sent Mr. B. a congratulatory note to celebrate his 19th year with the company. His reply: "Girl, we miss you!" (The office has not hired a replacement to fill the vacancy.)
