A reflection on failure.
Old now lie my stories
idle in their ageing inactivity
familiar yet fading fast
half forgotten, flickering flames
of a dying conflagration

once, they ran, whooping and
hollering, bold and swaggering
passionate and painstaking
their plots ripe and roaring
my characters irresistible
vibrant and charming

full of chases and intrigues
betrayals and indiscretions
loves lost and found and
unrequited. all quite enough to
take your breath away

jaded now, faded now
seen it all before and better written too
now neglected, now rejected
so boring and I've better things to do

Old now lie my stories
