a poem about a good friend of mine
WINGS

When you see her
On the street, In the hall
Or wherever you meet
Your empathy will overflow
How hard It would be
To be in a wheelchair
Full-time.
Then over time
You get to know her
Even though she's in a chair
Her laughter always
Fills the air
Her compassion works overtime
Her courage is that of a lion
You have never met someone so kind
You ask "God, why did
You leave her there
Her legs don't work,
Do you just not care?"
My Child he says
With a knowing smile
You think that I
Don't know these things?
When I took her legs
I gave her wings.
