Dark Dreamscapes Poetry Contest Week 4
FADING MEMORIES

I dream of her,
remember her just as she was
when love was new,
on a bench in Stanley Park
beside the pond
where ducks and geese
preened and paraded
in the summer sun.

I dream of her
turned away to watch the trees.
pig-tailed and sweet.
bare feet tucked up
beneath her gauzy dress,
a broken bench in Stanley Park
the summer throne
my princess graced.

I dream of her
the bright and verdant woods
fade slowly out of view.
Despite my will
and anguished heart,
my memory of loving fades,
and I awake
to emptiness
