Can they get out of the woods in time?
Ali, George and Gary had wondered too far out in the woods today. Usually they had an idea which direction was home, but they could neither tell the direction from the sun or the trees, and not a one of them had a compass.

Ali suggests, "We passed a river, maybe it was that way. As soon as we hear water, we'll know we're headed in the right direction."

Gary, who had a crush on Ali since the third grade, hyped this idea; "Yeah, so we'll just be quiet and go to where we hear running water."

George who had become intensely irritable, who didn't want to go on this 'stupid' hike anyways said, "Running water," Trying to sound like a native-American, "Married harsh breeze, if we remain quiet, head low, listen for hoof beats."

They walked a little farther, first they tried Ali's suggestion, then they went the other way for a while, then they just walked in the direction of the sunset.

It was getting dark, and although Gary gave Ali his coat, that only helped Ali, although the boys would never admit it, they were freezing.

They saw the first few stars in the sky, directly above them; "Hey you guys," George called doing double time, to catch up with the other two. He knew the pecking order, and he was the very last one in line. "Let's just lay here, build our energy up, and regroup, we can watch the stars."

Gary shook his head. "There are animals out here."

Ali might've yelped a little and grabbed onto his shoulder. "There are animals?" She looked nervous. "Like ants and snakes and worms though right, nothing that would eat us?"

Gary took this chance to let his imagination roam, "No... -Like bears and rhinos and alligators and vampires."

George called bullshit, "Alligators live down south in Florida, not in the mountains; and there's no such thing as vampires."

The whole group was silent for a few seconds before George needed an affirmation to concrete his beliefs..."Right?" He asked.

Gary took this opportunity for his imagination to take hold, "No, they're real. I've seen a couple before, they look just like the Dracula comics."

Ali had gotten even closer to Gary, shivering a little, and breathing heavy, on him. "You know, that whole regroup thing sounds good to me, our parents have got to be looking for us. Maybe if we just stay here, we'll see flash lights or something."

Gary agreed to this, and for a moment, a second in time, George had the floor.

"Okay, let's just lay in the dirt, the dirt will absorb our body temperature, and we'll stay warm."

George picked out a nice spot, under a tree, but with a full view of the stars. Gary, ever the gentleman, let Ali pick where they would lay, and laid next to her. They actually saw a couple of shooting stars.

George took this time, laying on his back and looking at the stars to start philosophizing. "You guys ever think about the dinosaurs before us? They we're probably just like humans before humans. I mean, they were the highest thing on the food chain, and practically ruled earth."

Ali, who was getting annoyed that George was there said, "Shush, lets listen for water." She put her leg over Gary's leg.

They listened, and when they listened and concentrated on that one sense, the rest of their senses just came alive.

George tried to talk again and said, "Yoooo, do you guys see that?"

This time Gary got upset by his breaking the mood, squarely, he asked, "See what?" He was more concerned with having Ali's leg over his.

George whispers this time, "I think it's a UFO."

Gary, still unsettled says, "And I think its a boy with an overactive imagination."

George said, "Look."

Gary and Ali both opened their eyes at the same time.

It was weird, a little green thing in the sky, being moved around by blue streaks through the sky, and as it got closer, they could see a white spot light, shining through the mountains, coming apparently from the bottom of the ship.

Gary whispered, "Woah."

Ali trying to get his attention started stroking the few hairs on his chin, and then practically got on top of him.

George however, who was not distracted, saw the white light from the ship coming ever so much closer, and it had either a bing, or a buzz, and it still came closer. It was making a loud buzzing sound, and eventually the ship was right over them. The buzzing sound became too much to George, and he opened his eyes; of course, it was his alarm clock.

Shutting it off, and drinking some water, he shook his head and damned himself, "Even in my dreams I'm a beta male." Without thinking he chuckled to himself, and followed his sense of smell to the kitchen, his mom was cooking eggs.
