A bride gets cold feet.
Wedding Jitters
WC 244

My mother is helping me with my wedding veil.

I made a mistake!”

There, I said it out loud.

I have been thinking about this for quite a while. Impeccable timing is not my forte. The church pews are filled; the chickens are roasting in the kitchen at the reception venue; everything is paid for, compliments of my parents.

I must tell someone the truth, but who? When? This is down to the wire.

Where do I begin? I guess at the beginning. A few weeks ago, I found out something that could be a deal-breaker. Everything was planned, so I kept quiet.

I went farther down the rabbit hole when it truly dawned on me that I will be legally bound to this man until death do us part. I also realized I will be dragging my parents into something illegal. As it turns out, my future husband and his family are criminals. Their fortune has been obtained through illicit means. It is dirty money!

“Honey, what do you mean you made a mistake?”

I clam up.

"Sweetie, you can tell me anything. You know that."

Even this? Okay!

“Mom I…”

Within five minutes, the ugly truth is all out.

“Daddy is waiting in the vestibule,” my mother says calmly.

“Mom, did you not hear what I said?”

“Sweetheart, have you forgotten who’s a silent partner in their company?”

“Girls,” my dad says as he taps on the dressing room door, “it's showtime!”
