Michael's mom receives a gift he has made especially for her.
The Gift
WC 226

My son Michael pulled an oddly shaped gift from under the tree. It was beautifully wrapped in the Sunday funnies by this precious 5-year-old. He placed the present in my lap.

“For me?” I asked.

I made it myself,” he said, his chest all puffed out. “Well, Daddy helped me a little bit.”

I looked over at my husband, he smiled.

I unwrapped my gift.

Hmmm?

It was made of pine and the size of a large cutting board. An unusual cardboard teepee and a patch of artificial grass were glued to the top.
I had absolutely no idea what it was. I waited for a clue from little Michael or Big Michael; none was forthcoming.

“Wow, Sweetie, it is amazing. Thank you so much.”

“I knew you needed one, Mommy. Daddy said so.”

“I did. I do. For sure.”

At this point, my husband was stifling a laugh.

My mother chimed in.

“What is it, Rosemary?”

"It is something I really needed, Mom, according to my two Michaels.”

I could tell that my mother did not have a clue either and was sorry she had asked.

“Well, who wants more eggnog?" she said as she escaped to the kitchen.

I may never find out what this unique masterpiece is, but I know it was made with pure love.

I will cherish it forever…whatever it is.
