2021: A Year of Dirty Politics

We thought politics could not get any dirtier. The New Year rolled in and we inaugurated the wrong president. We have political prisoners still in jail falsely accused of an insurrection, which looked more like a military coup to me.

To my knowledge, the state of Georgia still doesn’t have their voting under control. Then there was Joe Biden’s cabinet choices. What kind of “return to normalcy” was he intending with the people he chose?

Let’s talk about the trillion-dollar Fiscal Stimulus Package, Pro Brandon supporters argued it would indeed cause “short term” inflation. We will see continue to see prices spike. We will see inflationary pressures we have not seen in an entire generation.

No criminal charges for ex-Governor Cuomo, but it comes as no surprise. Allow me to point out the statute of limitations for sexual assault crimes was extended to 20 years and minor assaults up to 10 years. These allegations that former disgraced Governor Cuomo are facing are not even close to this timeline. And ironically, the governor who signed this into law in New York was none other than Andrew Cuomo

What do we have to look forward to in 2022?

The House select committee investigating the January 6 US Capitol riots will release an interim report with its initial findings in the summer of 2022, with the final report set around fall 2022, a committee aide said. The timing of the report is interesting don’t you think?

President Joe Biden has warned Russia about economic sanctions over a potential invasion of Ukraine and called for de-escalation. The talks will take place during a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe scheduled for January 13, according to a spokesman of the National Security Council. May we please have someone other than Joe Biden representing us on this one?

Mid-terms are coming! Republicans will look to pick up seats in places like Georgia, New Hampshire and Nevada. Here’s a look at the 10 most competitive Senate races in 2022.

Wisconsin- Ron Johnson
Pennsylvania - Pat Toomey
North Carolina - Richard Burr
New Hampshire - Maggie Hassan
Nevada - Catherine Cortez
Arizona - Mark Kelly
Florida - Marco Rubio
Colorado - Michael Bennett
Ohio - Rob Portman
Georgia - Raphael Warnock

The other seats up for reelection in 2022:

Alabama – Sen. Richard Shelby (Rep.)*
Alaska – Sen. Lisa Murkowski(Rep.)
Arkansas – Sen. John Boozman (Rep.)
California – Sen. Alex Padilla (Dem.)
Connecticut – Sen. Richard Blumenthal (Dem.)
Hawaii – Sen. Brian Schatz (Dem.)
Idaho – Sen. Mike Crapo (Rep.)
Iowa – Sen. Chuck Grassley (Rep.)
Illinois – Sen. Tammy Duckworth (Dem.)
Indiana – Sen. Todd Young (Rep.)
Kansas – Sen. Jerry Moran (Rep.)
Kentucky – Sen. Rand Paul (Rep.)
Louisiana – Sen. John Neely Kennedy (Rep.)
Maryland – Sen. Chris Van Hollen (Dem.)
Missouri – Sen. Roy Blunt (Rep.)*
New York – Sen. Charles Schumer (Dem.)
North Dakota – Sen. John Hoeven (Rep.)
Ohio – Sen. Rob Portman (Rep.)
Oklahoma – Sen. James Lankford (Rep.)
Oregon – Sen. Ron Wyden (Dem.)
South Carolina – Sen. Tim Scott (Rep.)
South Dakota – Sen. John Thune (Rep.)
Utah – Sen. Mike Lee (Rep.)
Vermont – Sen. Patrick Leahy (Dem.)
Washington – Sen. Patty Murray (Dem.)

On November 15, Sen. Patrick Leahy announced his retirement at the end of his term, the first Democrat to come to that decision.
Previously, five Republican Senators had announced their retirement at the end of 2022: Burr (NC), Blunt (MO), Toomey (PA),Shelby (AL) and Portman (OH).

Republicans need five seats to win a majority in the House and just one in the Senate. History suggests we are likely to pull it off. Let’s hope so! Especially since 2021 held the burning of our democratic cities with no repercussions. Police officers losing their lives. We should all pray for 2022!
