memories of a happy childhood
Quill Nominee Signature 2022.

I remember
         how Granny's arms
were always open for a hug.

I remember
         how I would bring home
         every animal and bug.

I remember
         the gritty feel
         of Grandad's five o'clock shadow.

I remember
         how Daddy and Grandad worked
on big tractors like the backhoe.

I remember
the smell of Big Chief tobacco
mixed with the scents of diesel and dirt.

I remember
         all the happy memories
from when I was a little squirt.

I remember
          Papa making his tattoo dance,
that hula girl on his arm.

I remember
         the love of my family
that kept me safe and warm.

I remember
going to garage sales with Grandma
always after the next good deal.

I remember
         the love and laughter
and how it made me feel.

I Remember.
