Art appreciation day.

The Budding Artist
WC 231

I was sitting at the dining room table working on my first art project.

"Oh, honey, that is so...unique," my mom said as she looked over my shoulder.

"Mom, don't stand behind me!"

"Oh, sorry," she said and headed for the kitchen.

I knew I had hurt her feelings, but I was frustrated. I realized I wasn't very good at something I thought I would be good at. And I was beginning to realize that being an artist didn't just happen. It was going to be hard work to master this art form, and I was discouraged.

I worked for another hour or so. I was feeling better about my abilities as my drawing started looking like what I envisioned. When I got it as good as I could, I called my mom into the dining room.

"It's finished. Come look! "

She stood over my shoulder again "Very nice honey. You really captured the essence."

"What do you see?"

"A banana tree. Or maybe a banana on a tower."

"Thanks, Mom!" I started to cry.

"Oh honey, what's wrong?"

“It's supposed to be a jonquil in a vase."

She studied the drawing.

"Oh sure sweetie, now I see it."

"You do not!"

"Bless your heart," she said as she wrapped me in a hug. " I could teach you how to crochet. That's creative. "

Gotta love my mom.
