a poem about protest
Invisible

Invisible must not consume.
Reverse is not my bearing.
Scars lie about me etched and raised.
Insults, I am not wearing.

Cast about from dimes to cents.
Not for care of me.
You walk about all tall and proud.
Up high you cannot see.

Silent screams and groans be loud.
No thought behind my eyes.
Acting done without thought or care.
Fly as the pigeon flies.

Talked about and deemed unsuited.
Beyond no closet door.
Make an unkind sign, will you?
I know that I am poor.

Cheaper still, cheap instituted.
Test a younger man than me.
Mind still raw and unpolluted.
Repeat our history.

If and when excess exposed.
Don’t look to me for aid.
Rising still alive at dawn.
I will have turned the page.
