It’s said a bush ranger stayed at our local hotel

Moondyne Joe, was a famous bush ranger who lived around these parts in the 1860’s. There is an urban myth that once he stayed at our local pub, The Mahogany Inn. When the police heard about his presence they arrived to arrest him. But wiley Joe, escaped through an upstairs window, jumped down onto a police horse and galloped away to freedom.
There are also tales of him escaping from jails in Perth, York and Fremantle. It is said though he was eventually caught after being found dead drunk in a local winery’s cellar after sampling all the local wines.
