Poem in lieu of the death of my boyfriend

LOST PET TALE

With pen and paper,
I gather all my strength
to tell you of my cat.
Being a pretty one,
I ruffle her ears
as she rubs my feet,
me, lost to the computer
my big toe pressing at her
furry back.
I write a personal journal entry
a poem that was once purple
as an iris, by nature,
out of my treasure chest,
flowering my love for my
departed man,
giving me the pleasure
of his company
by way of sending thoughts
to the afterlife.
I recall the day when our
pet was lost,
out in the night.
For us,
she did return, melancholy,
as I prompted her to "stay:".

Words can't express my joy
at the genuine wish I have to
to keep her, now.
A twin to circumstance,
as myself,
lost but found.
