a poem i wrote years ago, when growing up was my greatest fear and love felt far, far away
you only live once
tread softly, don't fall
spend your time wisely
before there's none left at all.
if you search for the stars
from dusk until dawn,
you miss out on the moon
and now it is gone.
you only live once
and the others do too,
it's understanding this fact
that makes it so true.
with its whispering soul
and the oceans so blue
and the green far stretched land
that supports me and you.
even earth has its limits
but one thing is clear
we must see them first
before we try to get near,
'cause when limits are reached
then all hell can run free
and you'll forget how to love
most miraculously.
by some strange occurrence
if you're ever the same
keep one thing in mind
and don't bring yourself shame.
before you continue
with all that you do
remember roses are pretty
but they're full of thorns too.
