What memory from your childhood stands out most clearly?
A memory that stands out most clearly? I have a lot of them. But a lot of them are disappointing, and a lot of them are depressing. Not because I was abused or neglected as a child, because I was lonely and distanced myself from most people. This prompt doesn't say that the memory has to be a happy one, but I choose to live life with a positive mindset. I've never had an affectionate relationship with my mother, and as much as I hate to say it, she's a rather cold woman. When it comes to her, the one who gave me life, there is one memory that has clung to my heart. I had to of been five, or maybe six years old because all I remember was being alone with my mom in the "brown house". This was before my mother married my stepfather and before my younger brother was conceived. My mom and I were sitting on the couch watching the movie Beaches and we were devouring a bag of Nutrageous candy bars. I can remember the feeling of surprise and wonder as my mom let me eat piece after piece of chocolate. I remember the feeling of being completely content sharing that moment with my mother. And I can still feel the texture of the candy wrapper between my small fingers. This memory now brings me regret as it was the only time I can remember feeling this way with her and it was the only time I felt at ease by her side.
