It was an easy choice.
Tired and weary
I stood in the rain
Waiting with others
To get on the train

Long week away
Meetings complete
Need my own bed
A good night’s sleep

I overhear a man
Telling of his bride
Her name is Grace
He says with pride

She waits at home
He got special leave
Only three days
A short reprieve

But time enough
Said with a smile
Meet his new son
Hold him awhile

We hear the news
The train is nearing
Get tickets ready
Suddenly, I’m hearing

A shout of dismay
Where is my bag?
It was at my feet
Left is just the tag

My ticket is gone
What have I done?
No money left
I won’t see my son

No hard decision
Look around to find
Conductor is there
Point, hand him mine

The least I could do
He protects all of us
Home a little later
I can take a bus
