An Ode to Dickens, and a Merry Christmas to all
A Christmas Carol

Where mistletoe hangs lowly,
when the Christmas bells ring out,
December days draw slowly
with the fairy lights about

Trees up for the season,
Angel topped or Star;
looking for a reason,
to trust in who we are

as angels, guarding, look down,
and stars so brightly shine;
remembered are the good ones,
remembered are the times

Remembered are the phantoms,
the ghosts of Christmas past;
wraiths lit up with lanterns,
some souls are born to last

whilst ghosts of Christmas present,
in body, gather round;
in darkness, incandescent,
that's where the comfort's found

with ghosts of Christmas future,
waiting to be sought;
tenses bound and sutured,
the carol that we bought

Presented by a phantom,
a special ghost we choose;
a pattern, wrought and random,
marked with things we win and lose

A festive season gambol,
a toast to auld Lang syne;
in the warm glow of a candle,
festive feasts and hot mulled wine

Take such times in slowly,
it's what the song's about;
when mistletoe hangs lowly,
and the Christmas bells ring out
