A neglected child sneaks away and fantasizes being in control of her life.
My Favorite Swing

Yesterday I went to the playground
to swing on my favorite swing.
There was no one else around
so I got to imagine all kinds of things.

I imagined I blew a bubble-gum bubble,
the biggest, all pink and blue.
And I floated all around the world
and saw happy kids everywhere just like you.

I imagined I was as small as an ant
climbing over rocks and through tall grass.
Swimming in a pool of morning dew
and never having to always be last.

I imagined I had a grass hopper
that was red and yellow and as big as a goat.
And I could ride him to school every day
across a big river on a funny little boat.

I imagined that I was as big as a tree
and growing 88 feet every day.
Until I was so big I could drink from the clouds
and everyone would want to hear what I had to say.

And then I imagined it rained every night,
but the sun would shine every single day.
Then no one would ever make me stay inside
and not let me come here to play.
