Driving home at night, a small fawn jumped out in front of my car -
THE FAWN

In front of my car she bounded;
Unsure who was more surprised,
I swerved to avoid hitting the fawn
Whose very life on me relied.

The fawn just kept on running,
Her coat was so light and brown
Dappled here and there with spots
A pure white tail like eiderdown.

The beauty of the small creature
Was such a lovely sight to see.
I'm glad to have stopped in time;
She wouldn't be hurt by me!

She stood on the side of the road
Then took off into the dark wood;
The little fawn was gone from sight
But seeing her had been so good.

For we often forget God's beauty
We forget at times to look and see
In unexpected places, a reminder
That He made all creatures free.
