True love endures all things. (For Lady Stars' First Line Contest.)
Poetic Hodgepodge
By Marilyn Mackenzie

I love a challenge! Lady Stars challenged us all to write a poem using only the first lines of poems already in existence in our portfolios. What nonsense! Or is it?

As I read these lines aloud, the corners of my mouth moved and slowly formed a grin.

This sounded much like a conversation I’d had recently with the love of my life. No, it made no sense. But sometimes when men and women try to communicate, it makes no sense. We speak different languages. His is a language of logic, mine, often of emotion.

The Battle of the Sexes – He Said, She Said

We talked of life…..

Just Clouds

Once upon a time

T’was a bright and sunny day

In my back yard is an argument

The beauty of autumn is seen in the distance

The grass is greener

Across the miles

The birds they sang in unison

As the last warm summer sun gently descends behind the hills

Just yellow and blue

The day turns to night

And of love…

Rosebud About to Bloom

My heart awakened at the first e-mail

For so many years

I've always known that

The minutes, they turn into hours

As I wander through the lonely night

There is a time for everything

When the time is right

Teach me, Lord, how to love, how to forget, how to forgive.

You touched my heart so quietly

"You know just why I love you"

If you were me and I were you

Wisdom etched lightly on his brow

Is there anything we haven’t shared

Abandon argumentative attitudes

Gibberish such as this could have ended what we believe is a real, lifetime, and special love. E-mails, instant messaging, even phone calls can be misunderstood. Facial expressions and body language tell the true tale.

The Bible has the best definition of love, of unconditional love. That love, the kind we all seek, is patient and kind. It isn't irritable. It believes, bears, hopes and endures all things.

There are no "buts" in unconditional love. There is always hope. My love and I will need to remember this when we start to speak gibberish to one another.

God remains our best translator.
