Prompted by a news story about a mysterious sea creature found in Chile...what is it?
Shadowy Chilean shore
reveals an undiscovered creature,
repulsive - all gray goo and globby girth.

Scientists are shrugging.
Oversized octopus? Whale blubber?

Laughter bubbles inside the spirit
of the sea-mystery:

I am of the shimmering immeasurable.

I once was rain, and then the rainbow.
Immersed miles beneath starfish & shark,
the subducting ocean crust was cradle,
and bioluminescent home.

Only in death am I discerned,
and then as ugly and indistinct.

Obviously,
they still do not know
everything.
