to my fellow SLAMmers, to you who plant the flowers
While on the way to
nothing special,
trudging the path of
just another day,
I was blessed to
stumble on the hodge-podge glory
of a wildflower field.

Stunning, the variety-
each one grown in
a different light,
from individual rains
         a personal petaled palate.

I do not know how long
I stood in silent awe.

My mind's eye began to picture
a tiny seed,
imagined how a flower
from my soul might
grow to look.
Would my colors be as bright?
Would my words be rich enough
         to fertilize this sacred ground?

I felt the untamed garden smile,
saw the flowers nod their heads
in a coincidental gentle breeze
         (or was it?)

So I bent down and to the earth,
whispered what I had to offer.
