A poem I wrote in 1998 about non-acceptance in my journey called life.
"Shhh! Silence!

Shhh! Silence!
Be very quiet.
Don't let them hear
the real pain that's in there.
Bury it deeper down inside,
so they won't know it's
really a mask you wear.

Shhh! Silence!
Please!
You cannot ever let them know
how your heart is being ripped out.
Smile, damn it!
Don't let them see your heart,
so they can prick it again.

Shhh! Silence!
Don't you dare cry out loud
or your hidden pain
will be exposed to them all.
Remember, they don't truely care.

Shhh! Silence!
Hurry up now!
Draw the shades down
that will provide concealment
of the windows to your soul.
They wouldn't ever understand
the loneliness that would be revealed.
Shhh! Silence!
