What if you were minding your own business and an alien dropped in for directions?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love to think about odd things happening, especially if those odd things involve aliens. My favorite musing is about having a first encounter with an alien. Wouldn't it be cool if it happened to me? And what would be a better spot than in my own bedroom, right?
I'd love to hear your stories or poems about where you'd like a first encounter to happen. What if you were just pouring a bowl of cereal? The cereal would be popping and snapping, making all of its usual noises, and maybe the alien would think the cereal was talking to him.
Or maybe, you'd be fooling around in your backyard, and the alien would think you lived in the doghouse.
Or, suppose you were in a swimming pool or at the beach, pond, or lake? Couldn't the alien think you were a seal, dolphin, fish, or whale? Maybe he'd try to communicate using a fishy-voice!
There are thousands of possibilities, and it's all such fun. Think of the whackiest one and "fly" with it. I can't wait to read what you come up with!
Here's one of mine:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Do You Know the Way to Mars?

I picked up my socks.

I picked up my shoes,

I started to collect

the other things, too.

When what did I see

circling my room,

the size of a pea?

An alien from space

In an egg-shaped ship.

I started to scream,

but I took a grip

when his hand started waving

and began to glow bright.

“Have you seen Mars?”

he asked real polite,

I pointed skyward

In the direction I’d seen.

He said,“Thank you so much.”

with “breath of chlorine.”

I watched him take off

from my window he flew,

right through the glass,

though it still looks like new.

Amazed by it all, I sat on my bed

with my socks and my shoes,

wondering what I should do.

Should I tell all my friends?

But if I gave them the news

what would they say

about that strange little man

who came by my way?

Why, they’d laugh at my tale,

and they’d never believe it,

and cameras and e-mails

would plague me to death.

So, I won’t say a word today

about that stranger who came

and asked me the way,

to the planet called Mars.
