Poem about the resiliency of children
Take the children down the road
And wait with them awhile
A promise from the phone again
The children have yet to smile
The dirt road from their house
Is long and stretches side to side
They can see miles away
No place for the car to hide
The wind comes and goes
And breaks up the heat
The children line up pebbles with their shoes
Into lines, nice and neat
Then time passes slowly
And cements further their belief
No one is coming
There is no room for grief
They stay for one more minute
Give the road one more glance
They know they shouldn't do it
But they give him one more chance
They turn around slowly
And walk back up the drive
One more promise broken
But the children will survive
