This is a blank verse poem that I wrote about being perpetually new in town.
A lone
I am alone among a sea of people,
Lightly tossed and rarely touched.
I do not speak, though I feel I must.
People flow around me, about me, through me
And yet I remain
alone
separate
and
dead.
Dead and separate from the ebb and flow of a culture
That too often remains foreign and aloof. Daily I plunge in
And daily I climb back out, dry, untouched, but not unaffected.
The spray and splash of mankind slips past me,
Leaving me an unwanted
I land
