In over my head
I cannot stay content merely to
Wander the shoreline of your soul.
For I have listened to the sound of surf upon the sand,
Felt the salt breeze on my face,
Followed the waves receding to the depths
And danced before them in the rising tide.
I have watched your greens and blues,
Dark waters swirling after the storm,
Sleepy in the morning mist,
Playful, laughing,
Flashing silver in the sun,
And I cannot anymore be content
Along the boardwalk
Groundbound, Landlocked.

I would plunge in,
Swim beyond my depth,
Feel your deep currents
And the pull of the moon.
Your gentle waters would bear me up
And float me away,
Breathlessly awash in you.
