When Angryman wreaks havoc at the mall, Dr. Smiles zooms into action.
Mess at the Mall

Abby Elliston was in her sophomore year of high school, as was her longtime friend Kelly Keaston. They had known each other ever since kindergarten. Not surprisingly, then, Abby and Kelly going to the East Park Mall became a regular occurrence. Of course, both had after school jobs to support their shopping trips.

Well, this particular trip was different. It started off usual. The girls bought new outfits for themselves. After all, summer was just around the corner.

Looking on from a distance, however, was Angryman, with his face mashed as usual, said to himself: “Two girls buying clothes for themselves? Not if I have anything to do about it!” So, right away, the mighty Angryman flew to the scene of the girls’ shopping spree.

Upon seeing Abby and Kelly exit the mall with their bags of new clothes, Angryman immediately confronted them. At the height of his lungs and in a loud, livid voice, he yelled at the girls, saying: “More clothes?” He, then, snatched the bags from them, and as he proceeded to take the contents out of those bags, the girls tried to stop him. But he shoved them aside…and then began tearing their brand new clothes to shreds. He then screamed: “Nobody buys new clothes and has a nice day if I can help it!” Afterwards, Angryman stormed away from the mall, breathing heavily and muttering under his breath as he did so.

All the while, passersby who witnessed the incident looked on in sheer unadulterated horror as it transpired. Someone else, however, also watched as the events unfolded…albeit from afar, unbeknownst to all. Watching from out of sight was Dr. Smiles, a member of the Joy Restoration Crew (or JRC, for short). The incident he witnessed worried him greatly and left him flabbergasted. He said to himself: “Oh, no! I can’t stand by and let Angryman win after he did that!”

So, off he zoomed to the mall. He approached the already-frightened Abby and Kelly and examined the damage. They were crying and sobbing out of utter horror. In a soft and sympathetic tone of voice, he asked them: “Did he just tear your new clothes to shreds?” At that, they nervously nodded in the affirmative. He, then, continued: “Well, not to worry, ladies. I know just the thing to do!”

Instantly, he picked up the torn remains of the girls’ new clothes. Then, after reassuring Abby and Kelly that he would return, he ran and enlisted the aid of Wisdom Woman (a fellow co-member of the JRC—who actually knew how to sew) to put together new clothing that looked substantially similar to the clothing the girls had originally purchased prior to the incident. After she was done, Dr. Smiles re-approached the girls with brand new clothes, which instantly put Abby and Kelly in a state of euphoria.

Meanwhile, Angryman, still breathing heavily and muttering under his breath, turned around…and lo and behold, he spotted Abby and Kelly exiting the mall all smiles once again. Unlike Dr. Smiles, this did not sit well with Angryman whatsoever. So, in a flash (and not to mention a fit of quadrupled rage), he raced back to the girls, and shouted: “What? I just tore up your new clothes! What in the stinking world happened?”

Somehow, however, Dr. Smiles overheard Angryman yelling at the girls and Wisdom Woman, though far away, spotted Angryman approaching the girls—and just as Angryman was about to attempt to rip the girls’ new clothes yet again, Dr. Smiles and Wisdom Woman high-tailed it back to the mall. In a stern, scolding, demanding tone of voice, Wisdom Woman asked Angryman: “What in the world do you think you are doing, Angryman? Are you trying to make these girls’ lives miserable?”

Pompously, Angryman replied: “You better believe I am, for no one, especially not bratty teenage girls, will go clothes shopping and get away with it as long as I’m around!”

“Oh, is that so?” Dr. Smiles responded, “Well, we’ll have to see about that?” Then, Dr. Smiles simply grinned. The glare from his smile, however, overwhelmed Angryman…so much so that it obscured his vision (exactly as bright daylight does to a person who has just exited from a dark room). Angryman then admitted: “Your smile, it’s too bright. I can’t see anything.”

“Oh, well,” said Wisdom Woman, “that just goes to show that your anger is really blinding you, Angryman. Next time, just live and let live.”

Angryman immediately began to pull back, then eventually, he retreated altogether—but not without warning everyone in sight: “You may have won against me this time, but I’ll be back, and I will win next time.”

Once Angryman was out of sight, Dr. Smiles then warned: “Unfortunately, he is right. He will be back. Hopefully, he won’t terrorize you again, but he’ll terrorize someone.”

“But just remember,” Wisdom Woman reassured everyone present, “that a calm and cool head will help keep you from getting as angry as he is.”

“And wherever Angryman wreaks havoc, we, the JRC, are not far behind,” Dr. Smiles promised.

“Oh, how can we ever thank you,” Abby said to Dr. Smiles and Wisdom Woman on behalf of herself and Kelly. Dr. Smiles lightheartedly replied: “You just did.”
